UMIP recognises that for all technology driven companies internationally, finding the expertise and technologies they need to solve technical problems, and drive product innovation is a very difficult and uncertain process, as there are approx 7000 universities in the world as well as many other technology providers.

UMIP is unique in that in pursuing best practice it has taken a strong lead in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the interface between both the university sector and industry sector. Since 2006 UMIP has progressively implemented systems that give technology based organisations of any sort new methods of accessing technology, investment funding, and academic research expertise so increasing their competitiveness and performance. UMIP has also drawn together its experience of technology commercialisation to produce an on line guide for external entrepreneurs to help them decide the best way forward and guide them to resources that can help them.
