We encourage you to contact UMIP for advice during your discovery process to ensure that you are aware of the options available that will help to maximise the commercial potential of your research.

It is worth noting that patenting your invention does not prevent subsequent publication.
However, publication of your idea/research before seeking patent protection inevitably results in loss of patent rights and should be avoided at all costs.

If you have an idea and are planning to publish please contact us at UMIP as soon as possible. Patenting your idea before you publish need not cause a significant delay in the publication process.
