FAQs

What sorts of assignments are there and how long might they last?
The mentoring role can vary from assisting fund raising, business modelling / testing, through to management team recruitment, and shareholder management. Engagements with UMIP spin-outs can also vary from just a few months to several years depending on the needs of the project.

What sorts of projects/technology areas does UMIP have in its portfolio?
The spin-out companies page lists most of our current projects, so you can browse information on each of them. Also, UMIP has a handbook giving case studies of some of our spin-out companies.

What sort of remuneration might I get?
This is flexible and is either in the form of form of share or share options and/or consultancy fees depending on the project and the nature of the assignment.

What sort of time commitment might a project need?
This varies enormously depending on the project and may vary at different phases of each project. It can range from as little as 1 day a month through to 2-3 days per week.

Am I able to invest in UMIP start-ups as well as act as a mentor?
