Life Sciences
The Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS) is one of the largest and most successful unified research and teaching organisations of its kind in Europe, with over 1000 people involved in research, 1500 undergraduate students and with annual research funding of over ?26 million.
Its research encompasses the entire spectrum of life sciences, from molecules, through cells and tissues, to the organism, and spans fields as diverse as environmental studies, cancer biology, neuroscience, genomics, structural biology and organ transplantation.
The Faculty has traditionally attracted entrepreneurial academics, and has a strong track record of generating and commercialising Intellectual Property. This has resulted in several noteworthy licence deals and a pipeline of thriving spin-out businesses, including Renovo (now floated on AIM), Gentronix, Senexis, AI2 and Aldezon.
